Traditional magnetic drive pumps are generally lower in efficiency compared to water pumps:
- Metallic mag-drive centrifugal pumps generally experience eddy current losses due to their metal containment shell. Non-metallic containment shell options are usually very costly.
- Plastic centrifugal mag-drive pumps need thicker impeller vanes for structural strength, therefore, the available flow path is limited, thus, limiting its output.
- High-efficiency plastic centrifugal mag-drive pumps are usually very difficult to produce economically, therefore, most plastic mag-drive chemical pumps on the market have low pump efficiency.
